Agencies are increasingly asking themselves, “What are the risks that could prevent my agency from achieving its mission and objectives?” At one time, it was enough to focus on departmental risks such as financial or operational risks for federal financial programs or acquisition and investment risks for departments and agencies that rely heavily on procurement of major systems and other support for the agency’s mission.
In today’s complex world, a narrowly defined view of risk is not sufficient. Broader concerns today may involve lack of experienced staff due to the aging government workforce; lack of adequate technology systems to address privacy, hacking, and cyber-intrusions; inadequate internal controls resulting in a failure to comply with agency policy or oversight; or any number of diverse risks. Agencies need to learn the principals of building a risk-aware culture throughout the organization -- in other words, develop an Enterprise Risk Management Program that gives a top-level view of the risk platform across the entire agency, not just in finance, the information technology office or some other silo.
This webinar will explore how agencies can provide a singular focus on risk to give the agency an enterprise-level view of the portfolio of risks an agency must take into account in order to make strategic decisions with the appropriate balance of performance, cost, and risk.
