In today’s complex world, a narrowly defined view of risk is not sufficient. Broader concerns may involve lack of experienced staff due to the aging government workforce; lack of adequate technology systems to address privacy, hacking, and cyber-intrusions; inadequate internal controls resulting in a failure to comply with agency policy or oversight; or any number of diverse risks. Agencies need to learn the principals of building a risk-aware culture throughout the organization -- in other words, develop an Enterprise Risk Management Program that gives a top-level view of the risk platform across the entire agency, not just in finance, the information technology office or some other silo.
The George Washington University Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Certificate will provide individuals or teams within agencies with the knowledge of the principles geared toward the public sector that are necessary to improve performance, quality and trust in the ever-changing political and cultural environment agencies face today.
This information session will explore how individuals can apply for this program and bring agencies a singular focus. Both public sector professionals and contractors will learn how to use ERM to explore what agencies must know to make strategic decisions with the appropriate balance of performance, cost, and risk.
