Cybersecurity – always a moving target – is morphing again as organizations, including federal agencies, converge their information technology with their operational technology. OT is, after all, a form of applied IT. More and more, OT is riding on the same IP bus as the IT, thereby joining the roster of critical that assets an agency must protect.

That raises questions of governance and organizational structure, because the various pieces of infrastructure are “owned” and controlled by different components. Agencies must resolve the governance question while bringing all of the assets – IT and OT – under a common risk management framework. That is, if they’re to have any hope of a cogent, sustainable strategy for cybersecurity.
