Terrestrial Imagery and IOT
As the GEOINT profession and the private sector have matured, new collection mechanisms such as microtasking via mobile phone apps, crowdsourcing portals, social media OSINT collectors and others provide usable data - but at the cost of anonymity, security, and speed.
The Internet of Things (IOT) and databases listing these devices and their locations allow for an unprecedented level of access to real-time terrestrial imagery. This underutilized resource identifies the foundational requirement of new and existing data sources described as an emerging technology within the GEOINT EBK (Essential Body of Knowledge). Services like Shodan and Instagram’s APIs allow for search by geo-reference (eg: Moscow, RU) coordinates (eg: lat, long) or IP space (assigned to a particular ISP or location). The findings from these services allow unprecedented access to erroneously volunteered geographic information when combined with default passwords or unauthenticated accesses. This training will provide users with the knowledge and expertise of how to use these various datasets for their various GEOINT missions.
Training Goals: 1. Introduction to Internet of Things (IOT) Devices
2. Introduction to Shodan, Social Media APIs, Kamerka, Netscraped
3. Preparing execution environment for use of tools and identifying public IP based cameras
Prerequisites:
• Participants will need to install privileges on their laptop
• Participants will need terminal/command line access
• Participants will need a text editor (VIM, Sublime Text, etc.)
