Bolstering Climate Resilience for National Security Forum

Climate change is not solely an environmental concern. Climate-related risks present numerous challenges for which the U.S. defense and national security communities must account, from a detrimental impact on military readiness and federal infrastructure to potential supply chain disruptions. Meanwhile, communities around the world face drought, flooding, and other events that deplete food and water supplies, increasing the likelihood of humanitarian crises and interstate conflict. 

With extreme-weather events occurring at an unprecedented rate, federal managers have massive amounts of climate data and modeling projections at their disposal. However, analyzing this data to understand their mission-specific risks presents its own challenges. This discussion will explore the national security implications of climate change and how data analytics can inform agencies’ climate adaptation strategies.
