New Year's Resolution for 2022: Preparing for Ransomware Attacks Targeting State and Local Government Agencies

In the midst of the pandemic, just days after the state of Maryland discovered its first Omicron cases, the Maryland Health Department website had to go offline, reportedly because of a ransomware attack. Just a week later, the Virginia agency that provides IT and tech support for the state legislature, had to respond to its own ransomware attack. And agencies and companies alike are dealing with an attack on a third-party payroll company just days before Christmas.
These are not outliers. In 2020, at least 93 ransomware attacks targeted agencies at different levels within 68% of U.S. states. One New Year’s resolution for 2022 for state and local agencies is likely to be finding more and better ways to prevent ransomware attacks. Failing that – human nature and tech flaws being what they are – agencies are resolving to create more and better ways to recover from ransomware attacks.
Join us to hear thought leaders from government and industry discuss their experiences on the front line of defense in protecting against ransomware attacks and responding to the aftermath.
